Technical Glossary

Understanding gas industry terminology.

ATEX (Explosive Atmospheres)

European directive ensuring equipment is safe for use in explosive atmospheres (such as gas filling plants handling flammable gases like hydrogen).

SCADA

(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). Centralized computer systems which monitor and control entire sites or complexes of systems (like our E-Connect system).

Top-Filling

Advanced filling method using a mass flow meter allowing specific gas to be injected directly into a partially filled cylinder without prior purging, saving time and gas.

Cavitation

A phenomenon in cryogenic pumps where the liquid gas vaporizes due to a pressure drop, potentially damaging the pump. PLC Process systems include automated detection to prevent this.

Block & Bleed

A safety manifold arrangement using two block valves in series and a bleed valve in between to ensure absolute isolation of fluid.

SAFT (Semi Automated Filling Tool)

An upgrade to a manual filling skid that adds digital safety controls and automated steps without fully automating the main gas valves.

P&ID

(Piping and Instrumentation Diagram). A detailed diagram in the process industry which shows the piping and process equipment together with the instrumentation and control devices.
